Philly Fans defend Rocky's honor.

What a great story! Rabid hockey fans from Pittsburgh made an early morning attempt to put a Sidney Crosby Penguins jersey on the statue of Rocky Balboa in Philadelphia. This is WONDERFUL!!!!! This is even better than the kook in Raleigh, NC that was arrested for cutting down Hurricanes jerseys that were placed on Civil war statues in the downtown area during the Hurricanes 2006 Stanley Cup run. Now you have Philly fans doing 24 hour watch over the Rocky statue like they are on a stakeout. How much fun is THAT? Then again, how big a loser do you have to be sitting around at night in a car eating Cheetoes and guarding a statue. Truth is, Philly fan should have already put a Mike Richards wrapper on the Stallion's back already themselves. I have been refraining from taking sides in this little civil war, but Crosby Nation is proving to be much more creative than Philly fan so far. I completely expect for Philly fan to respond in game 3 as usual... start a few fights, use Pens fans as urinals...you know, typical Philly fan stuff. Turning Rocky into a Steel towner...even if for only a few minutes is a great start to this little skirmish.

You're refraining from taking sides?  RRRRiiiiggghhttt....doesn't appear to be the case - you've managed to contradict yourself in one unfinished paragraph.   We knew what side you were on after reading title of your blog about the city of brotherly hate.  So typical of non-Philly fans to talk trash and then want to appear as if they are neutral.

Philly Fans defend Rocky's honor.

I do not hide my distain for "Philly Fan" as defined by the idiots that pelted Santa Clause with snowballs, rained batteries down on J.D. Drew and booed so many of their own players throughout the years. Most Philly fans are fine people...but there are a core group of these idiots that are just angry, bitter people that relish the idea of an opposing teams players lying injured on the field enough to cheer it, ala Michael Irvin and the previously mentioned Jose Reyes. That said, I don't care much for the way the Penguins have been forced down our collective throats either. I know there is nothing the league office would love more than to put Sidney and the Crosby Kids on the Stanley Cup. I hate the bandwagon that team gets just because of the media hype. I shake my head at the fact that the only team NBC seems to want to air is Pittsburgh and insert opponant here.

I don't hide who I am. If you think I am being contradictory, I invite you to read both blogs again. I make sure to address there is a difference between most Philadelphia fans and "Philly Fan." I make the distinction that those people are embarrassed by the behavior and attention these idiots attract. I certainly don't apologize for anything I write about. I remember many nights with my AM radio listening to Harry Kalas call Phillies games on 1210AM. One of my first baseball heroes was Mike Schmidt. Schmidt was a very classy guy and somehow managed to rise above the constant boo birds he got in Philly. This is a 12-time All-Star, 10-time Gold Glove, 3-time League MVP and 1980 World Series MVP and Philly Fan somehow expects this guy to hit a home run everytime he steps to the plate. If he doesn't, they boo. It wasn't imagined. It happened and seems to keep happening there year after year.

Philly Fans defend Rocky's honor.

Just saying....people are always coming down on Philly fans when this stuff happens everywhere.  No different than New York, Boston, Chicago...to name a few.   Take a look at this clip for example:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFHne2NAgyI&fmt=18

Philly Fans defend Rocky's honor.

I am not saying Philly Fan invented the "Bronx Cheer." Philly fan just took it, created a whole new level of Bush League, parked in the handicapped spaces and "Rocky Ran" through the front door with arms raised overhead. I would love to watch the video you are using in place of an actually rebuttal, but I am at work and they don't allow streaming video sites on the network. I take it your point is that fans everywhere do that. I agree, but the numbers that show up for Philly games is overwhelming. You may not like the Dallas Cowboys (and I don't...see prev blog,) but thats not an excuse to spend the better part of the game turning their bench area into a snowball shooting gallery. These things are not figments of your imagination. These things happen because they have been allowed to behave that way so now they think its Standard Operating Procedure.
